Yoga Classes - Workshops - Intensives


The word yoga means "union" in Sanskrit, the language of ancient India where yoga originated. Yoga is a comprehensive system that facilitates Health and Well Being on all levels.

Yoga Classes
Daily Yoga classes (twice a day) are included during a scheduled Detox/Cleanse in the Ashstar Wellness Programs. Energizing poses are practiced in the mornings and restorative poses are practiced in the evenings. Classes are open to all levels of beginners and practitioners of the Primary Series. Led by Kanjini.


Dynamic Flow - 8.30 am

Designed to fully support and enhance your Cleanse, this sequence of movements will facilitate and improve:
* Oxygenation and circulation
* Joint mobility and range of motion
* Muscular and spinal flexibility
* Neurological function and core strength

Restorative Flow - 5.00pm
Focused on enhancing one's breathing capacity which then promotes deep relaxation in the whole body bringing about greater balance and harmony among the various systems and functioning of organs.

Workshop - Structural Energetics

Designed for those who are interested in enhancing their experience of Yoga, this workshop provides the guidelines for exploring structural alignment within each Yoga pose (asana). When basic foundation is strong, the full potentialof a pose can be expressed energetically. Practice becomes delightful regardless of what goes on externally.

Understanding a pose is the first step towards enjoying a consistent Yoga practice. When a pose is steady and comfortable, the breath is calm and the Mind can begin to focus. Improved posture, increased lung capacity and clarity of mind are just some of the immediate benefits to be gained.

Intensives are designed to develop a Yoga practice or deepen an already existing one. The Essence of Yoga is emphasized in every posture that is then linked in a sequence so that the balance of Strength and Flexibility is achieved. At the core of every posture is Structural Integrity. This provides the firm foundation for a consistent practice that is continually rewarding on many levels.

Ashtanga Yoga

Based on the traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system taught by Sri K Pattabhi Jois at the Ashtanga Yoga Reasearch Institute in Mysore, India.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is an ancient and powerful practice that promotes self practice. The different series combine specific sequences of postures (asana) with Vinyasa.

There are three very important elements to the practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga:
• UJJAYI (breathing style)
• BANDHA (locks)
• DRSHTI (gazing point)

This approach produces internal heat, purifying the physical body and the nervous system. The result is a strong, graceful body and a calm, focused mind. As you allow each posture to reveal its essence to you, your Heart increasingly opens and expands to the limitless of your Beingness.

The Primary Series (Yoga Chikitsa) is therapeutic in nature, encouraging the body to release its toxins and tightness (mainly muscular skeletal). The different postures in this series also purifies and tones the internal organs. The spine is invited to become supple again through the backbends and this prepares you for more advanced backbends to come.

The Second Series (Nadi Shodhana) is purifying to the nervous system. Your body becomes increasingly lighter and stronger at the same time.
